A Love Letter to Beautiful Hair — Since 2020
Welcome to Hair Level Up
Where Hair Becomes Art
Hair Level Up is your trusted companion for hairstyle inspiration, founded in 2020 with a single, simple mission: to help every woman discover the beauty of her hair through curated stories, expert guidance, and editorial-grade inspiration, completely free, beautifully presented, and made with love. Whether you’re searching for a wedding-day chignon or a five-minute office bun, we’re here to make every strand feel intentional.

Our Story
It Started With One Bad Haircut
In the spring of 2020, our founder Sarah Khan walked out of a salon holding back tears. She had spent hours scrolling Pinterest, saving inspiration, and explaining exactly what she wanted, and still left with a haircut she didn’t recognize. Frustrated by tutorials that didn’t deliver, advice scattered across a hundred different blogs, and the gap between glossy magazine images and what real women could actually achieve, she had a quiet thought: women deserve better than this.
That night, she started Hair Level Up from her bedroom with one camera, a borrowed tripod, and a single belief: every woman deserves a destination that feels like a magazine, teaches like a stylist, and inspires like an art gallery. Our first article, “The Soft Chignon Anyone Can Master,” was tested fourteen times before it went live.
Six years and two million monthly readers later, we’re still asking the same question we started with, how do we make this beautiful and useful for the woman reading right now? Today, our editorial team spans three continents, our Bridal Vault holds 200+ curated wedding looks, and the woman who once cried in a salon parking lot has helped countless others walk into theirs feeling certain.

What We Stand For
Our Four Core Values
The principles that shape every story we publish, and every reader we welcome.

Authenticity
Every tutorial is tested in our studio before it reaches you. No filters, no fake transformations, just real, repeatable results from women who’ve actually tried them.

Inclusivity
From 1A pin-straight to 4C coils, fine to thick, short to waist-length, every hair type, texture, and tradition deserves a seat at our editorial table.

Expertise
Every guide is written or reviewed by certified stylists and trichologists. We never publish a tip we wouldn’t trust on our own hair.

Elegance
We chase timeless beauty over viral trends. Every story is crafted to age as gracefully as the styles we showcase.

Editorial Team
Meet Our Lead Editors
Two voices shaping every word, every image, every story you read on Hair Level Up.

Editor 01
Sarah Mitchell
Founder & Editor In Chief
A licensed cosmetologist with 15+ years styling A-list celebrities for editorial shoots and red carpets, Sarah leads the editorial vision of Hair Level Up — overseeing every story from concept to publication.
Her editorial philosophy is simple: “A good story teaches you something. A great one makes you feel beautiful while it does.” Every tutorial published on Hair Level Up passes through her hands — fact-checked, photographed, and refined until it meets the standard she set for our very first article.
Sarah’s work has been featured in Vogue, Elle, and Harper’s Bazaar, and she trained under the late hairstylist Oribe in New York early in her career.
Her commitment to authenticity and elegance is the heartbeat of our mission — making sure every reader feels seen, taught, and celebrated.
Editor 02
Emma Rose
Senior Bridal Editor
A bridal hair specialist with over a decade of experience styling South Asian, Western, and fusion weddings across three continents, Emma curates and writes our entire Bridal Vault — the heart of our editorial collection.
Her editorial philosophy: “A bride should never have to choose between tradition and personality. Both belong on her wedding day.” Emma reviews every bridal article we publish, ensuring cultural respect, technical accuracy, and inclusive representation across all 200+ looks in our collection.
Emma has styled brides for Vogue Weddings, BRIDES Magazine, and several South Asian luxury wedding publications — and was named one of the “30 Bridal Stylists to Watch” by Hello! Magazine in 2023.
Her dedication to inclusivity and craftsmanship reflects our deepest values — making every bride, from any tradition, feel like the heroine of her own story.

What Makes Us Unique
Not a Salon. Not a Pinterest Feed. Something Better.
Most hair blogs chase trends. Most Pinterest feeds give you images without context. We do something different — we treat every hairstyle as a story worth telling well.
Our innovative approach blends three things rarely found together: editorial photography, expert-tested techniques, and genuine cultural representation. Here’s what that looks like in practice.
- Studio-tested tutorials — Every step photographed by our team, never stock images.
- The Bridal Vault — 200+ wedding looks across mehndi, nikah, and reception traditions.
- Trichologist-reviewed care — Hair-health advice grounded in science, not marketing.
- Free editorial PDFs — Lookbooks and planners you can take to your stylist.

Giving Back
Hair Confidence, For Everyone
We believe inspiration shouldn’t come with a paywall, and confidence shouldn’t come with a price tag. That’s why everything on Hair Level Up is and always will be free.
We also partner with two community initiatives close to our hearts: the Crown Project, which provides free hair-care kits and styling guides to women in shelters, and Brides For Brides, which donates curated bridal lookbooks to brides-to-be in underserved communities.
Every reader who joins our newsletter helps us reach more women — because beautiful hair is a small thing, but feeling beautiful is everything.
Looking Forward
The Best Stories Are Still Ahead
By 2027, we’re launching our first Hair Level Up Print Annual — a beautifully bound editorial keepsake of the year’s best looks. We’re also expanding our Bridal Vault to 500+ looks, building region-specific style guides for Pakistan, India, and the Middle East, and welcoming three new editors to our team.
Most importantly, we’re going to keep doing what brought you here — telling beautiful stories about beautiful hair, one strand at a time.
