We Respect Creators. We Expect The Same In Return.

DMCA and Copyright Policy

Copyright, Credit, and Care

Hair Level Up is built on the talent of photographers, stylists, hairdressers, and creators. We respect the intellectual property rights of every artist whose work helps tell our stories, and we expect the same respect for our own original editorial work. This page explains how we handle copyright concerns, both ways, in line with the United States Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), 17 U.S.C. § 512.

01 — Our Commitment

How We Source And Credit

Hair Level Up uses imagery in the following ways: original photography commissioned and produced by our editorial team, licensed photography from agencies such as Getty Images and Adobe Stock, runway and red‑carpet imagery licensed through editorial wire services, social media embeds (Pinterest, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube) used in accordance with each platform’s embed terms, and creator content shared with explicit permission. In every case, we credit the photographer, stylist, or original creator whenever the source is verifiable. If we ever fall short, we want to know.

02 — If We Used Your Work

Filing A DMCA Takedown Notice

If you are a copyright owner (or an authorized agent of a copyright owner) and you believe that your copyrighted work has been published on Hair Level Up in a way that constitutes copyright infringement, you may submit a written takedown notice to our designated DMCA Agent. Once we receive a valid notice, we will act expeditiously to investigate and, where appropriate, remove or disable access to the material in accordance with 17 U.S.C. § 512(c).

2.1 What Your Notice Must Include

To be effective under the DMCA, your takedown notice must include all of the following:

— A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner, or a person authorized to act on the owner’s behalf.
— Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed (for example, the original photograph, article, or illustration). If multiple works are involved, a representative list is acceptable.
— Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing, with sufficient information to allow us to locate it (the full URL of the article or page on hairlevelup.com is ideal).
— Your full name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
— A statement that you have a good‑faith belief that the use of the material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
— A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or are authorized to act on the copyright owner’s behalf.

2.2 Where To Send Your Notice

Send your completed takedown notice to our designated DMCA Agent (contact details in Section 07). Email is the fastest method and our preferred channel; postal mail is also accepted.

2.3 Our Response Timeline

We acknowledge valid DMCA notices within 48 business hours. Once a complete and verified notice is received, we typically remove or disable access to the disputed material within 5 business days, often sooner. We will notify the original poster (if any) that the material has been taken down and provide a copy of your notice in accordance with 17 U.S.C. § 512(g).

2.4 A Note Before You File

In many cases, a quick conversation resolves the issue faster than a formal DMCA process. If you simply want different credit, an updated caption, a backlink, or to have your work removed without a formal filing, please email editorial@hairlevelup.com first. We respond to creator concerns within 48 business hours and are almost always happy to fix the issue informally. The DMCA route is fully open to you regardless, but most creators find the direct path easier.

03 — Counter‑Notification

If You Believe A Takedown Was A Mistake

If your content was removed from Hair Level Up in response to a DMCA notice and you believe the removal was the result of a mistake or misidentification, you may submit a counter‑notification under 17 U.S.C. § 512(g). To be valid, your counter‑notification must include:

— Your physical or electronic signature.
— Identification of the material that has been removed and the location at which it appeared before removal.
— A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that you have a good‑faith belief the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification.
— Your full name, mailing address, and telephone number.
— A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for the judicial district in which your address is located (or, if your address is outside the United States, the Southern District of New York), and that you will accept service of process from the person who provided the original DMCA notice.

Upon receipt of a valid counter‑notification, we will forward it to the original complainant. If the complainant does not file a court action seeking a restraining order against you within 10 to 14 business days, we may, at our discretion, restore the removed material.

04 — A Warning About False Claims

Please Be Truthful, It’s The Law

Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), any person who knowingly materially misrepresents that material is infringing, or that material was removed by mistake, may be liable for damages, including costs and attorneys’ fees, incurred by the alleged infringer, the copyright owner, or Hair Level Up. Please consider whether the material is actually owned by you, whether your use claim is supported, and whether the use might qualify as fair use under 17 U.S.C. § 107 before submitting a notice. When in doubt, consult an attorney.

05 — If Someone Copies Hair Level Up

Reporting Theft Of Our Content

Hair Level Up content is owned by Hair Level Up or licensed to us by our contributors. All articles, lookbooks, tutorials, downloadable PDFs, original photography, illustrations, and brand assets are protected by United States and international copyright law. Republishing our content (in whole or in substantial part), removing our watermarks, repackaging our lookbook PDFs, or training AI/ML models on our material is not permitted without written permission.

If you encounter Hair Level Up content used without permission elsewhere on the web, on social media, or in print, we would be grateful if you let us know at legal@hairlevelup.com. Please include the URL or screenshot of the suspected infringement, the original Hair Level Up URL, and any context that may help us evaluate the use. Our team also actively monitors for infringement using DMCA takedown processes on Google, Pinterest, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.

06 — Repeat Infringer Policy

A Zero‑Tolerance Approach

In accordance with 17 U.S.C. § 512(i), Hair Level Up has adopted and reasonably implemented a policy of terminating, in appropriate circumstances, the access of contributors, commenters, or users who are repeat copyright infringers. We will also remove and permanently block any user‑submitted content (comments, photos, hashtag posts) that has been the subject of repeated valid DMCA notices.
